Remembering the Space Shuttle Columbia

It’s been 10 years since the space shuttle Columbia was lost during re-entry at the end of mission STS-107.  Here’s a look back at a short video that Fast Forward created in February, 2003 to remember the astronauts who lost their lives.

Author K. D. Wentworth passes away

We note that author K. D. Wentworth, co-author of our reviewed book this month, The Crucible of Empire, passed away on April 18th, 2012.  Ms. Wentworth won the Writers of the Future Contest in 1988, as well as the Field Publications Teachers as Writers Award in 1991.  She went on to publish several novels and more than 50 pieces of short fiction.  You can find more details about K. Author Anne McCaffrey passes away 11/21/11

A Random House Publisher website reports that the popular and prolific author Anne McCaffrey, best known for her Dragonrider of Pern books, has died.  The post from Random House says that she passed away at her home in Ireland after suffering a stroke. McCaffrey was 85.  During her lifetime she published nearly 100 books, won numerous major awards and was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame.

Our condolences to Ms. McCaffrey’s family.  Her passing is a great loss to the science fiction and fantasy community.
